New Year, New Beginnings, New Lessons...
Happy new year to everyone all around the globe. As we said our goodbyes to 2017 and welcomed 2018 with hugs and kisses, we also set our new years goals and resolutions. As I kicked off my new year with close friends and family, I realized what a blessing 2017 was for me. I accomplished more than what I had anticipated professionally and personally. And I would like to share some of my lessons, here is a secret to my success. Every year new years eve I pray Nafl namaz ( a Muslim prayer) and meditate. I thank Allah for all the countless blessings, and then I ponder about my goals for the coming year, and as I shut my eyes, I see myself being in that moment as if I have already accomplished that goal. This is called law of attraction. Another thing I suggest is writing every goal you could imagine achieving on a paper and don't be hesitant to draft unachievable plans which you may think are not possible to conquer. The secret is aim high, and you will land somewhere in the middle of your plan. Also, set quarterly goals, one whole year can seem very long, and it is easy to get distracted. If you set less time, you will work harder to get to it. Lesson two, self-improvement. Always keep in mind your circumstances will not change unless you work on improving yourself first. Every year I find areas where I would like to improve personally and I focus on that. This year I would like to get back to being more spiritual and connected to Allah. Also, I want to be more disciplined with my routine which will allow me to keep a balance between health, work, family, and time to myself. Another way you can improve is to ask your mentor, family member, boss, or a close friend to tell you areas where they think you should work on yourself since sometimes it can be challenging to find flaws within yourself. For example, I ask my brother who is also my business partner to give me his feedback where I should improve on with work. I ask him about my weaknesses and slowly work towards them. Lesson 3, learn to be grateful! Be grateful for every good or bad experience, for which with each experience there is a lesson learned. Be thankful for every small thing to every big thing in your life. For example, I wake up every morning, and I thank God for waking up healthy, for having a bed, a roof, a family and all the countless blessings. Being grateful attracts positivity and brings more blessings, again the law of attraction. Lesson 4, be charitable. The word charity is not necessarily only in monetary. When I was a teen, I used to help clean the mosque after events and work as a volunteer for a variety of community service events. As I grew older I started to help others by organizing charitable events and raising money. And now I give away my clothes, shoes and other personal items which I no longer use to those who are in need. I also support a family back home in Pakistan by providing them monthly groceries for past 3 yrs. Also, I mentor young adults on life coaching. This year, I would like to adopt a kid by paying for his/her education and mentoring them. It is my belief by giving you get more, it is never less but it multiplies. Once again the law of attraction. Lesson 5, work hard. I hate to tell you this, but there is no easy way to be successful. Every success stories have countless hours of hard work. I have always had to work hard to be where I am today, and I believe I can still work harder. I grew up as an immigrant and faced many challenges from school to now. But remember it is not the smartest kid who makes it, it is the kid with the grit. This year will be another fantastic year, and I can't wait to see what all is coming my way.
